Shin-Soo Choo left the yard and had 3 RBI at Napolean Park where the incredible Michigan Mad Dogs beat the Wrigley Raiders by the score of 7 to 4.

Michigan came up with 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when they had 3 base hits. The key at-bat was by Choo who elicited a roar of "Ya~Tsu ta" from the hometown fans when he belted a three-run homer. Wrigley was out-hit by Michigan, 11 hits to 7.

PINEY CREEK at ITALIAN STALLIONS

Ryan Spilborghs smashed 2 homeruns and Mark Lowe was great in relief as the Piney Creek Palookas smashed the overmatched Italian Stallions, 20 to 9.

Spilborghs was really in "the zone". He laced a base-hit in the 2nd inning, lofted a solo-blast "DOWNTOWN" and through the St. Louis Arch in the 6th inning and caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun in the 9th inning. Piney Creek lit up the scoreboard in the 6th inning when they had 5 runs on 4 hits and the 9th inning with 7 runs on 5 hits. Lowe earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 7th save.

Vicente Padilla (7-5) went 5 innings allowing 7 runs for the victory. The loss was charged to Jesse Chavez (1-1) in relief. By giving up 13 runs in 4 innings his ERA increased from 1.59 to 13.03.

GEORGIA CRACKERS at FENWAY FAITHFUL

James Loney ripped 2 homeruns as the Georgia Crackers outscored the Fenway Faithful 12 to 5.Fenway was out-hit by Georgia, 17 hits to 8.

Derek Lowe (8-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and allowing 3 runs. Jered Weaver (6-5) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.

"It felt really nice to get this win," Lowe said. "I kind of dictated the game. It's what I get over-paid to do. It worked out this time.... and finally got our Manager, Peach Taylor off my butt"

FENWAY at GEORGIA CRACKERS

Luke Hochevar (5-2) and Ryan Rowland-Smith(4-6) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with Hochevar and the Georgia Crackers coming out on top of the Fenway Faithful 2 to 0.

In the 3rd inning Georgia scored 2 runs. That early scoring was all that Hochevar needed. After the 3rd inning, neither team was able to score. Mariano Rivera got the save, his 13th.

AND.... RETURNING THE FAVOR!

Josh Beckett whiffed 14 batters as the Fenway Faithful defeated the Georgia Crackers by a score of 2 to 0 at Crackerland Park.

Beckett (7-4) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Georgia hitters. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and 1 walk in 8 inningslowering his ERA to 4.32. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning.

Jonathan Broxton recorded the save, his 11th. Jason Marquis (0-5) was the losing pitcher. Beckett was humble when questioned about his performance,

'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what was called.... and my catcher (Pierzynski) called a GREAT game!

WEEK 17 - GAME 3 -- STALLIONS at GEORGIA

29,281 Redneck fans were treated to a fine game at Crackerland Park as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Georgia Crackers won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

The score was tied at 3 after nine, but Georgia came out on top in the 11th inning. After two outs were recorded in the 11th, Hideki "Yankee Boy" Matsui drew a walk. Ichiro Suzuki was next up and he also drew a walk. Fernando Cabrera lost his composure and uncorked a wild pitch. Cabrera, feeling the Southern Heat in "Hot-lanta" then threw a high and inside pitch that got by the catcher. It was ruled a passed ball, making Georgia the winners and sending the 7,685 fans home happy (the other 21,596 fans left early when Crackerland Park ran out of "Billy Beer" in the 5th inning!). Georgia had a total of 7 hits for the game.

Mariano Rivera (3-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 and 1/3 innings. Cabrera (0-1) was a bit out of kilter and was tagged with the loss in relief. His performance was as useful as a pogo stick in quicksand. But, he was the hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work.

With this victory, Georgia continued their winning ways as their streak now stands at 6 games and counting. Manager Dave "Peach" Taylor was in a very talkative mood after the ballgame. "Damn, Fella's, I really don't know what else I can tell ya, cept, you know what they say... A wink is as good as a nod, to a blind horse, and that Cabrera fella was bringing up the rear today. But that don't matter much to me, cause we'll take a win any way we get one. And from my point of view, that win was huge... in fact, it was as purty as a speckled pup under a red wagon . All I can say is, Damn. All our guys over the past week or so are just playing lights out. Damn, my boys, they're really are hitting on all cylinders. Everything is working. Ya know, we keep this up and, well, we'll be fixin' to go to the playoffs. I know it's a long shot, but ya never know. "Damn, I know it can't last forever - but then again, Damn, it sure ain't gonna stop us from trying!"

WEEK 25 - GAME 1 -- MISSOURI at PINEY CREEK

A record crowd of 56,872 was on hand to see President George Dubbya... Dubbya... Dubbya Bush throw out the 1st pitch... and later see Ronnie (Wanted Poster) Belliard hit one into the "cheap seats" at Centennial Field as the Piney Creek Palookas came back dramatically to top the Missouri Mustangs by the score of 4 to 3.

Piney Creek came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 4 hits. Rajai Davis started the inning off right when he ripped a base-knock. Jeff Fleischman then called for a steal which was successful. Ryan Garko then doubled bringing in a run. Adrian Beltre was up next and he stroked a one-base hit. Kenji Johjima stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the bases. Raul Ibanez continued the rally and laced a base-hit giving Piney Creek the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Piney Creek had 10 hits for the afternoon while Missouri had 5.

Manny Corpas (5-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Chad Cordero (3-5) was the loser in relief. He allowed 4 hits and 1 walk without retiring a batter.

WHAT A MUG SHOT!!

(a face only a Parole Officer could love!!)

Corpas and Belliard were really whooping it up in the clubhouse (but without an interpreter, nobody could understand what they were saying. It sounded like, "El Gerente es un Idiota", but, HA, HA, HA, HA.... THAT couldn't be right??) after the great come from behind victory. As Jeff Fleischman noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys (despite all the ugly lies and rumors that you guys have been writing about us all year in your papers, said Fleischman) - It's better than winning by a dozen runs!'

WEEK 20 - GAME 3 -- CHICAGO MOB at ALBANY INTERNATIONALS

Catcher Victor Martinez lofted one into the $45 "cheap seats" and had 2 RBI as the Albany Internationals beat the Chicago Mob by a score of 8 to 6.

"Victor rockets one into the 'cheap seats' ... although the visiting team
looks like they could use a seat cushion!"

Albany brought 6 runs across the plate in the 2nd inning with the help of 6 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Rickie Weeks who made the crowd happy when he smashed a two-run homer (his 7th of the season). Albany had 14 hits for the game and Chicago had 9.

Rickie Weeks smashes a 2-Run HR!

The victory went to Tim Wakefield (10-7) who went 7 innings, allowing 6 runs. Billy Wagner earned his 4th save. Cha Seung Baek (0-1) took the loss and was immediately deported back to the Minor Leagues. THE "BIG HURT"
HITS G.U.S.S.O.M.O. HOME RUN # 500!

May 29th, 2008 -- In the 2nd game of a three game set at Antioch, The Chicago Mob's Frank Thomas clubbed his 500th home run. The historic clout came as Frank led off the 6th inning vs. relief pitcher (and former Mobster) Josh Towers. The homer gave The Mob a 5-4 lead, which they were unable to hold, losing 9-5. "Frank's been sort of a forgotten man as his career winds down", said Mob manager Fred Turtle. "It's great that he was able to reach this milestone". "I'm glad it's over with", said Thomas. "I wish it could have been at home in front of the Mob fans that have been so supportive of me, but I'll take it. I know I can still contribute to this team".

This is the 2nd such milestone to be reached by a career Chicago Mobster this season as Curt Schilling reached the 3,000 strikeout mark earlier.

A NOTE ABOUT OUR LEAGUE

The one constant through all the years, Guys, has been G.U.S.S.O.M.O. Many Strat-O Leagues have rolled by like an Army of steamrollers. They have been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again.

But then there is G.U.S.S.O.M.O.

Our League, G.U.S.S.O.M.O., has "marked the time." This League, This Game, is a part of our past, Guys. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again. Oh... our managers and people will come, Guys. Our managers and people will most definitely come to Detroit.

See all you Guys in a couple of days at our League Get-Together!

Jeff
