History was made in Missouri as Josh Johnson (5-3) tossed a no-hitter and the Missouri Mustangs defeated the Chicago Mob by the score of 3 to 0.

Johnson was just too much for Chicago. He gave the "get-together" League fans in St. Louis a game they'll never forget! He walked 2 Chicago batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Johnson appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Missouri banged out 8 hits on the night.

Jorge De La Rosa(5-6) took the loss. 'Johnson made us look bad' Fred Turtle said. 'I've seen a lot of good performances in my time and this one hurts... and it will be a .... Long Train Ride Home to Chicago.

2009

Antioch fans certainly got their money's worth at The Coal Mine. Greg Smith (2-1 so far in 2009) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Missouri Mustangs toppled the Antioch Coal Miners 9 to 0.

Smith was just too much for Antioch. He walked 2 Antioch batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Smith appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Missouri banged out 13 hits on the night. Paul Maholm (3-3) took the loss.

"Smith made us look bad' Lawrence Green said. "I've seen a lot of good performances in my time and this one will be tucked away in my memory bank for a long time to come"

2008

In a pre-season game, Mike Mussina pitched a perfect game against Albany's A-team yesterday.
Can't remember the last time I participated in a no-hitter, and this is the first perfect game for sure.

Final line: 9-0-0-0-10. Milton Bradley whiffed on an 85 mph fastball to end the game.

I know if Kevin reported the result, even the 2 people who believed it would have viewed it as a shameless attempt at player promotion. I'm just glad this wasn't regular season face to face. The internationals would still be running sprints in the OF!

CLEMENS NO-HIT'S THE SEATTLE PILOTS (2006)

Roger Clemens (3-0) was on top of his game (and maybe on the "Juice") in Sin City as he tossed a beauty of a no-hitter against the Seattle Pilots. The Sin City Bounty Hunters won by a score of 4 to 1.

Clemens provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd at Nal Hutta Expanse evening. He walked 5 Seattle batters. The Sin City players and coaches started to leave Clemens alone with his thoughts after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion after every out. Seattle went down quietly in the 9th.

Mike Maroth (0-1) was the loser. He surrendered 2 runs and 6 hits in 4 and 1/3 innings. 'Not in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen! 'Clemens said as he stood at home plate to salute the fans. 'Once I got into the later innings, I decided to challenge every hitter, and that turned out to be the right decision!' I'd be cheating everyone here, the staff and rest of my teammates, if I wasn't able to stay on top of my work. It was almost like therapy, to come back and get in an environment I'm comfortable with. As for the steroid accusations... "Never happened," Clemens says. "Never happened. And if I have these needles and these steroids and all these drugs, where did I get 'em? Where is the person out there gave 'em to me? Please, please come forward." "My body never changed," Clemens says. "If he's putting that stuff up in my body, if what he's saying which is totally false, if he's doing that to me, I should have a third ear coming out of my forehead. I should be pulling tractors with my teeth." "But right now, I'm just enjoying my GUSSOMO no-hitter and beating a fine team like the Seattle Pilots"

***************************************************************************************************************

History was made on Opening Day in Chicago at Veeck Park (one that only HAL could come up with.) as Odalis Perez(1-0), with relief help from Roberto Hernandez, tossed a no-hitter and the Corpus Christi 'Cudas defeated the Chicago Mob by the score of
4 to 0.

Odalis Perez for Corpus Christi was outdueling Curt Schilling of the Mob 4-0. To be more precise, he had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the 8th inning, allowing only one walk to Sammy Sosa. The closest to a Mob hit is a BP HR (1-8) chance missed by Brian Jordan. Up comes the Mob inthe 8th... but what should appear in the play-by-play window ??? The answer.... "Roberto Hernandez coming in to pitch for Odalis Perez"!!

Can't override HAL, so a confused and hurt Perez is removed with a no-hitter going and a 4-0 lead! There is a brief scare with a BP SI (!-4) in the 9th, but Roberto gets Derrek Lee to preserve what is a first for Chicago and surely a first for the 'Cudas; a two man no-hitter on opening day! Roberto doesn't even get a save for his efforts.

Corpus Christi came up with all the runs they needed in the 6th inning as they scored 4 runs on 4 base hits. The key at-bat was by Rob Mackowiak who silenced the stadium when he laced a single scoring two baserunners. Corpus Christi had only 6 hits for the game.

The loss was charged to Curt Schilling (0-1). He gave up only 5 hits and no walks in 7 innings. 'I gave it everything I had. It's probably the greatest day of my life,' Perez said. 'I was out there focusing on my catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching my game.'
